About the Role
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the day to day HR administration, bi-weekly payroll processing, and benefits administration for our Edmonton, Alberta location. In addition, the Payroll Specialist supports our Edmonton team by providing guidance on HR and payroll related matters and understanding of Alberta Employment Standards.

Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Schedule: 5 Days a week - 8:00am-4:30pm
Compensation: $75,000-$80,000/year
Start Date: Immediate
Key Responsibilities
Human Resource Administration
Act as the first team member point of contact for any HR, recruitment, payroll, or benefit questions and support
Manage HR policies, and support ongoing updates and changes as necessary
Create new contracts, termination letters, and more
Maintain employee data within HRIS system
Assist in special projects as required
Payroll Processing
Complete full cycle bi-weekly payroll for salary and hourly employees
Responsible for reviewing and importing employee timecards from the EzLabour time system into ADP Pay@Work
Resolve questions from managers and employees as they relate to the processing of payroll information
Compile data and statistics concerning payroll related issues and prepare reports as required from internal and external stakeholders
Prepare documentation, including ROE, and final pay for terminated employees, T4’s and work with Service Canda as needed.
Complete quarterly and annual filings for WorkSafe Alberta
Responsible for the payment and reconciliation of garnishments and RRSP contributions
Ensure awareness of and compliance to applicable employment legislation and administration of all applicable withholding's and remittances
Benefits
Manage all enrollment, employee changes, and terminations with the benefit providers and the resulting payroll implications
Key knowledge expert of company benefits programs to support employees
Ensure on-time payment to all benefit providers as well as reconcile the bills to our payroll systems to ensure accuracy with both the provider and the payroll system
Complete benefit premium adjustments in payroll systems as required
Monthly benefits reconciliation
Liaise with benefits broker on the plan design and on-going bench marking of the company’s benefit plan against industry comparators and best practices, as well as annual benefits renewal
Disability Management
Manage disability management procedures, policies, processes, and record keeping
Submit short-term and long-term disability employer statements to the benefit provider
Rack and manage active disability claims ensuring expectations are clear and follow-up is managed appropriately
Disability management: create and manage track and manage active claims, submit employer documentation, liaise with supervisors and claim manager to manage return to work programs
The Ideal Candidate
Post-secondary education in a related field
3-5 years’ experience with full cycle payroll processing in CAD for hourly and salaried employees
Experience with ADP People@Work, Pay@Work, and EzLabour software, required
Strong Microsoft Office skills, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information
Excellent analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail, with emphasis on Excel
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Flexible and adaptable
