Job Title: Accounting Technician
Term: January 15, 2026 – April 30, 2026
Flexible Start Date: January 5, 2026 or February 1, 2026
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Overtime:

  • Approximately 45 hours per week from mid-February through end of April

  • Accounting Technicians typically require limited overtime until April

  • April overtime: approximately 7–10 hours per week, as needed

  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half

Part-Time Option:

  • Potential administrative support work available in April

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping

  • Perform small business accounting for corporations and sole proprietors.

  • Write up and reconcile bank statements and tax receipts to support income statement preparation.

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for small clients (typically 1–5 employees).

  • Prepare balance sheets and income statements from year-end financial records.

Government Slips Preparation (T4, T5, WCB)

  • Prepare approximately 400 sets of government slips during February.

  • Complete WCB filings as required (limited volume).

  • From March through April, approximately 50% of workload will transition to personal tax returns.

Personal Tax Preparation

  • Prepare a variety of personal tax returns with varying levels of complexity.

  • Review prior-year returns, enter carry-forward information, and request missing documentation.

  • Complete full-cycle T1 personal tax preparation from start to finish.

  • Communicate directly with clients during preparation and review stages.

  • Submit completed files for internal review, finalize upon approval, and deliver completed tax packages to clients.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with internal scanning and digitizing of documents.

  • Support corporate year-end work if time and workload permit.

Ideal Candidate

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field (in progress or completed).

  • Previous bookkeeping or tax preparation experience is an asset.

  • Familiarity with personal and small business tax concepts preferred.

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak periods when required.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to manage time effectively during peak tax season.

  • Comfortable working with confidential financial and personal information.

  • Clear communication skills when interacting with clients and internal team members.

  • Willingness to adapt and support a variety of accounting and administrative tasks.

  • Prior experience with government slip preparation is considered an asset.
