Our client is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Accountant / Accounting Manager to join the team immediately. This is a key operational finance role responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting, receivables, reconciliations, payroll support, month-end reporting, and cash flow management. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, and can confidently work with strong personalities while contributing as a valued business partner. The successful candidate be supporting senior leadership including the General Manager and ownership team.

Schedule: 5 days in office, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Compensation: $24-25/hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Finance Operations

    • Manage daily bank reconciliations across 4–5 accounts (Canadian and USD)

    • Reconcile transactions between Sage 50 and AutoPoint systems

    • Process and apply incoming customer payments including EFTs, e-transfers, cheques, and wires

    • Maintain accurate AR ledgers and investigate discrepancies

    • Prepare weekly ageing reports and monitor outstanding balances

    • Assist with month-end close including:

      • Accruals o Prepaids

      • Work-in-progress

      • Amortization

      • Trial balance

      • Profit & Loss reporting

    • Prepare full schedules and reconciliations for external accountants

  • Accounts Receivable & Credit Management

    • Lead collections efforts via phone and email

    • Monitor customer payment terms (Net 30 / Net 60)

    • Assist in account holds/freeze decisions for overdue balances

    • Manage new customer credit applications through Equifax and reference checks

  • Accounts Payable

    • Review AP submissions from support staff

    • Assist with payment runs and banking files

    • Coordinate monthly vendor payments (approximately 90 vendors/month)

    • Process EFTs, cheques, and occasional wire transfers

  • Payroll & Compliance

    • Support payroll processing in Sage 50 for 10–12 employees

      • Salaried staff: semi-monthly

      • Hourly staff: bi-weekly

    • Track commissions for sales team members

    • Assist with payroll remittances, GST, ROEs, T4s, vacation accruals, and annual WCB reporting

  • Cash Flow & Reporting

    • Monitor daily cash flow and update internal forecasts

    • Provide financial insight to leadership on profitability and payment timing

    • Support business decisions through accurate financial reporting

  • Operational Support

    • Participate in weekly management meetings

    • Assist with insurance renewals, fuel cards, and select administrative projects

    • Support inventory reconciliations at locations in Spruce Grove and Nisku (occasional overtime/weekend support may be required)

The Ideal Candidate

  • Required

    • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in a full-cycle accounting role

    • Strong experience with Sage 50

    • Solid understanding of AR, AP, reconciliations, payroll, and month-end close

    • Intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reconciliations)

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

    • Comfortable working in a fully in-office environment

  • Preferred

    • CPA student or pursuing accounting designation

    • Experience in multi-entity or operational businesses

    • Experience with inventory/accounting system integrations

    • Experience in construction, industrial, trades, or project-based environments

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $40.00 – $45.00/hour (flexible for the right candidate)

  • Vacation: 3 weeks annually

  • Sick Time: Flexible within reason
