Project Manager – Power Generation

A well-established power systems organization is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead complex electric power generation projects involving generator packages, switchgear, and controls. This hybrid, contract-to-potential-permanent role is ideal for a results-driven professional with a strong construction, electrical, or mechanical background who can step into active projects and deliver results quickly. This position plays a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to scope while maintaining high standards of customer service and technical execution.

Job Title: Project Manager – Power Generation (1-Year Contract, Likely Extension/Permanent)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (7.5-hour days, some flexibility) | Hybrid (1 day/week from home)
Location: Calgary, AB (Office near Calgary Airport)
Compensation: $50–60/hour (Target ~$56/hour | ~$110K annually)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Reports To: Project Management Team Lead
Key Responsibilities:
Project Lifecycle Management
Manage 1–5 concurrent power systems projects valued between $300K and $3M, from purchase order through commissioning and closeout.
Step into active, in-progress projects with typical completion timelines of 12–18 months.
Ensure scope, schedule, budget, and quality alignment throughout the full project lifecycle.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the primary point of contact for customers, internal teams, and approved subcontractors.
Lead internal and external project meetings, managing expectations, resolving issues, and driving outcomes.
Provide regular project updates, schedules, and documentation to clients.
Scheduling & Change Management
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using MS Project and internal project management systems.
Coordinate schedules with internal engineering, sales, estimating, service teams, and external stakeholders.
Manage minor scope changes and change orders, with all changes reviewed internally prior to issuance.
Procurement & Logistics Coordination
Oversee procurement execution based on project handover documentation and approved vendor lists.
Initiate and verify logistics and shipping activities for equipment and components using internal resources.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
Monitor and control project budgets, ensuring profitability targets are achieved.
Prepare monthly project financial reports and forecasts using Excel and ERP systems.
Track costs, revenue, and gross profit margins throughout the project lifecycle.
Technical & Documentation Oversight
Ensure technical scope is clearly defined and executed by internal service teams and subcontractors.
Manage documentation processes including submittals, approvals, and project records using internal systems.
Coordinate commissioning activities with internal service teams and subcontractors.
Process Improvement & Team Support
Apply internal project management and quality methodologies to ensure consistent delivery.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Support internal teams on project management tools, reporting, and best practices.
Conduct project closeout activities, including lessons learned and final reporting.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety, quality, and compliance standards.
Required Skills & Attributes:
Strong project management capability within construction or industrial environments.
Ability to manage complex, long-term projects with multiple stakeholders.

Qualifications:
3+ years of project management experience, preferably in power generation, industrial electrical, or mechanical projects.
Technical background in power systems, generator sets, switchgear, or controls is an asset.
Trade certification (Electrician or Heavy Duty Mechanic) or technical diploma/degree preferred.
Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating cross-functional teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, Visio, Excel, and ERP systems.
Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is an asset.
Willingness to travel up to 20% (local and occasional interprovincial travel; mileage reimbursed).
