The Opportunity

We are seeking an Account Manager – HVAC/R to join our Calgary branch and provide technical sales coverage across Southern Alberta. This is a client-focused role that combines sales skills with strong HVAC/R technical knowledge to manage existing accounts, support contractors and engineers, and drive equipment sales. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Account Manager will inherit a portfolio of existing clients while focusing on building relationships with larger mechanical contracting companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow assigned accounts

    • Oversee a portfolio of ~50 accounts ranging from sheet metal contractors to wholesalers and large mechanical contractors.

    • Allocate ~80% of time to managing and expanding current accounts, with minimal prospecting required.

    • Target growth with large contractors (e.g., Modern Niagara, Botting & Associates, Great Northern, Trotter & Morton).

  • Achieve sales and profitability targets

    • Meet or exceed annual sales quotas (base + commission on 10% of job profit).

    • Deliver monthly forecasts, pipeline updates, and account reviews to branch leadership.

  • Apply technical HVAC/R expertise

    • Provide consultative sales by demonstrating equipment performance and system integration knowledge.

    • Analyze mechanical/electrical design packages and assess bid applicability.

    • Prepare and deliver 10–15 bids/estimates per month, including equipment take-offs, scope letters, quotations, and order entry.

  • Client engagement & relationship building

    • Develop relationships with consulting engineers, contractors, estimators, and project managers.

    • Conduct weekly site and client visits across Southern Alberta, balancing 50% office / 50% field time.

    • Host seminars, trade show demonstrations, and technical presentations as needed.

  • Sales support & project coordination

    • Generate shop drawing submittals and coordinate delivery schedules to meet project requirements.

    • Assist in project cost control including procurement, change notices, and invoice tracking.

    • Work closely with operations and logistics teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Market awareness & product knowledge

    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product lines, competitor activities, and market conditions.

    • Participate in quarterly product trainings (internal & external) and factory training in the U.S. when required.

    • Provide customer feedback to support product development and R&D initiatives.

  • Reporting & accountability

    • Maintain accurate records of sales activity using the CRM system.

    • Provide branch manager with regular updates on account activity, pipeline, and strategic goals.

    • Demonstrate professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when representing the company externally.

Ideal Candidate

You are a technically inclined sales professional who thrives on building strong client relationships while applying HVAC/R expertise. You bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical sales, HVAC/R, or mechanical systems (10+ years for senior-level).

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R equipment and mechanical system integration.

  • Ability to read and analyze mechanical/electrical design packages.

  • Demonstrated consultative sales skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to contractors and engineers.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage ~50 active accounts independently.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering or CET designation preferred; APEGA/ASET accreditation an asset.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PDF editors).

  • Valid driver’s license and passport (for occasional U.S. training travel).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 (commensurate with experience)

  • Commission: Uncapped, based on 10% of job profit (anticipated Year 1: $10K–$15K)

  • Vacation: 3 weeks to start (negotiable up to 4) + 1 week office closure between Christmas & New Year

  • Sick Days: 3 per year

Work Environment

  • Location: Calgary branch office + Southern Alberta territory

  • Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday

  • Travel: Local client visits weekly; 1–2 U.S. trips annually for training

  • Office/Field Split: 50% in-office / 50% on-site with clients

  • Culture: Collaborative team environment with autonomy in managing accounts; balance of independent work and knowledge-sharing across the branch.
