How Stand Out From The AI Content Tsunami

Everybody knows AI like ChatGPT is a gamechanger. Generative AI is revolutionizing the job application process and everybody and their grandmother is getting in on it. So, in a sea of AI generated content, what can you do to stand out from the tsunami?

Generative AI, like ChatGPT, is a technology that can create written form. I’ve used it to write anything from blog posts to rhyming scavenger hunt clues to poems. More importantly, as many have found, it can help you write your cover letters and resumes.

But how do recruiters feel about this? And how will it affect the hiring process in the future?

Well, some recruiters may not even notice or care if you use generative AI. They may actually be more interested in your social media profile or your skills and personality. Others will even use their own AI tools to test and evaluate you.

So, how can you stand out from the crowd of AI users?

Here are 5 tips:

  1. Be personal. Show you did your research. Include the hiring managers’s name, company name, and something specific that you learned about them or their business.

  2. Spark curiosity and flatter them a bit. Use a catchy subject line and mention something positive about their work, or company reputation.

  3. Tell them why you are contacting them and what value you can offer. Explain how you came across their company or profile, what caught your eye. Highlight the benefits of having you on a team and what value you bring.

  4. Start with a small request and include a clear call to action. Don’t ask for too much too soon, such as scheduling an interview. Instead, invite them to reply to your email if they’re interested in continuing the conversation.

  5. Follow up if necessary. Don’t give up if you don’t hear back from them right away. Send a friendly reminder after a few days, and restate your value proposition.

Number one takeaway is that when everything is auto-generated, your humanness makes you shine. AI can be a powerful tool, but it’s like what was said in The Incredibles, if everyone’s super, no one’s super. So yes, take advantage of new technology and tools, but use them to showcase your personality, engagement, and energy.
