Case Study: The VETS Group

In early 2022 Sean originally reached out to Melissa VanWart (Client Development Manager) after he and his team experienced a few unsuccessful internal hires for key roles within the company. He had gotten to know Melissa over the years, as she continually worked to build a relationship with him while gaining a proactive understanding of his business. Sean decided, at this time,  that establishing a partnership with a firm that could dedicate the time and focus to sourcing talent for his organization would be a valuable, proactive decision for his business and the people within it. He also hoped to reduce or eliminate the costly expense of unsuccessful hiring and the turnover that it contributes to.

In this case, he was seeking a candidate with a passion for Health and Safety, expertise, and knowledge of the predictive behaviours, motivations and soft skills involved with creating a Safe and Healthy workplace environment.

Upon learning about the general scope of the requirement, Melissa enlisted the expertise of Chava Parmar, Search & Contract Specialist, to conduct an in-depth Position Discovery with Sean. From there, Chava was equipped, ready and excited to start working on this search.

She took to her network to source candidates that she believed would be interested in the role and who had the VETS required work experience. After shortlisting 15 candidates, one gentleman quickly rose to the top of her prospect list. This candidate is one that she connected with months prior but had not yet placed into a new role with any of her clients. After interviewing him and discussing his qualifications, experience, motivations, and how this would translate to VETS' opportunity, she was very confident that he would be able to offer Sean what he said VETS was looking for.

Acting with urgency, Chava created a detailed presentation on the candidates’ accomplishments, experience, references, motivators for seeking other opportunities, and compensation expectations. (This is an SRG standard practice for all Search roles). She sent it over to Sean for his review, and VETS moved just as quickly to schedule and complete multiple interviews with the candidate, ultimately deciding to offer the position to him.

Chava was able to assist with compensation negotiations through the offer and acceptance phase of the process and was also able to provide market insights to help all parties ensure that the offer was fair and agreeable to all. In this case, not unlike many negotiations in our business, the negotiation took some time and effort; however, the outcome was very positive and exciting.

Upon the three monthly check-ins after her candidate started with VETS, Chava was thrilled to hear how much her candidate liked his new job, how well he integrated himself into the team and culture, and how he was able to make a positive impact on the organization, and the people within it, so quickly.
